A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION EXTENDING THE 1999 REGULAR SESSION OF THE MISSISSIPPI LEGISLATURE, AUTHORIZING THE HOUSE AND SENATE TO ADJOURN FOR MORE THAN THREE DAYS, SPECIFYING CERTAIN CONDITIONS UPON WHICH THE HOUSE AND SENATE SHALL RECONVENE AFTER SUCH ADJOURNMENT, AND FIXING THE DATE OF SINE DIE ADJOURNMENT OF THE 1999 REGULAR SESSION OF THE MISSISSIPPI LEGISLATURE.

WHEREAS, Section 36, Mississippi Constitution of 1890, provides that the House of Representatives, by resolution with the Senate concurring therein, and by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of those present and voting in each house, may extend a regular session for a period of thirty (30) days; and

WHEREAS, the Legislature has determined that it wishes to have the opportunity to consider, during the 1999 Regular Session, any appropriation bill, House Bill No. 471 or Senate Bill No. 2679, passed by the Legislature at the 1999 Regular Session that the Governor may veto, without having to remain continuously in session while the Governor has such bills under consideration; and

WHEREAS, Section 57 of the Mississippi Constitution of 1890 prohibits the adjourning of either house for more than three (3) days without the consent of the other house, and the Legislature has determined that a period of adjournment of more than three (3) days may be necessary:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That the 1999 Regular Session of the Mississippi Legislature is hereby extended for a period of thirty (30) days from the final day of the ninety (90) calendar days of the 1999 Regular Session of the Mississippi Legislature, pursuant to the provisions of Section 36, Mississippi Constitution of 1890.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives and the Senate each may stand adjourned for a period of more than three (3) days from such date and time as determined by each respective house and, if before Wednesday, April 7, 1999, either the House or the Senate has received any message from the Governor vetoing any appropriation bill, House Bill No. 471 or Senate Bill No. 2679, passed by the Legislature at the 1999 Regular Session of the Legislature, then the House and Senate shall reconvene at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 7, 1999, for the purpose of only considering such veto messages; otherwise, the House and Senate shall not reconvene.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the 1999 Regular Session of the Mississippi Legislature will stand adjourned sine die at 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 7, 1999.
